INTERNATIONAL DESIGN SCHOOLS' EXHIBITION

The festival's theme "Design for Need" questions the life cycle of today's product. Is the new generation of designers, the first agents in any production cycle, equipped to navigate the waters of a society replete with challenges and regulations? In response, a collection of student projects are presented by Estonian Academy of Arts, Tartu Art College Pallas, Tallinn University Haapsalu College, Tartu Art School. The floor additionally extends to representatives from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and University of the Arts London.

2+2

The 2 + 2 exhibition from the Pallas University of Applied Sciences shows a selection of 2020 graduation works in the field of design. The works completed and submitted during a state-wide emergency situation were exceptional and approached design from several sides. There was work on material that begged for a new approach. There was a client who needed a more beautiful solution for a functional chair. There were several works on the design process itself that needed a new source of inspiration. The end result is as simple and logical as 2 + 2, which had to be done in a situation where 2 + 2 was not easy at all.

STUDENT ARTWORK EXHIBITION

Crafting Organic Waste For Fashion

Riina Õun is a leather accessories designer, researcher and a recent graduate of MA Material Futures at Central Saint Martins, UAL in London. She is exploring how waste Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast (SCOBY) generated from the kombucha drink industry can be re-processed into a new, more sustainable, vegan, leather-like material. Various possibilities of how craft has to adapt to working with the material are explored within a collection of handbags. The result is a fully commercial, market-ready product that I can create in large quantities as a viable alternative for the fashion industry.
